About this Myers–Briggs-style test
This free personality test explores four preference pairs described in the Myers–Briggs framework. It uses 40 original statements written by Steadnet, with ten statements for each pair. You answer five statements at a time, choosing how much you agree or disagree. Think about your usual preferences across everyday situations, rather than a single unusually good or difficult day.
- Extraversion (E) / Introversion (I): whether you tend to direct attention outwards through interaction or inwards through reflection.
- Sensing (S) / Intuition (N): whether you tend to start with concrete information and experience or patterns and possibilities.
- Thinking (T) / Feeling (F): whether you tend to prioritise consistent principles or personal values and the people affected when deciding.
- Judging (J) / Perceiving (P): whether you tend to prefer closure and structure or openness and flexibility in everyday life.
People can use both sides of every pair. No preference is better than another. These descriptions do not measure intelligence, kindness, confidence or ability. Learn about the framework from the Myers & Briggs Foundation.
How the scoring works
Each answer receives a value from −2 for strongly disagree to +2 for strongly agree, with zero for neither. Within each pair, five statements are scored towards each side. The scoring direction is reversed for statements favouring the second preference. The ten values are added separately for each pair, producing a balance between −20 and +20.
The side with the higher balance supplies the suggested letter. An exact tie is shown as mixed. A total one to four points from the middle is described as a slight lean. These are transparent choices for this questionnaire, not scientifically established cut-offs or confidence levels.
If all four pairs have a direction, your report includes a suggested four-letter type. If any pair is tied, it explains both sides instead of forcing a type. Every report includes your preference breakdown, possible strengths, things to reflect on, communication, relationships and everyday decisions.
Your answers stay with you
The assessment works entirely in temporary browser memory. It does not send your answers or results to Steadnet or an external assessment service. It does not use accounts, analytics, tracking pixels, cookies, local storage or saved result links. There is no email request or payment to unlock the report.
You can go back and change answers while staying on this page. Restarting, refreshing or leaving the page clears your answers and report. There is no saved session to recover later.
Our hosting provider processes ordinary request metadata to deliver the page; that is separate from your quiz answers. Other Steadnet services, such as the enquiry form, have their own information handling described in our privacy notice.
Questions about the test
Is the whole test and report really free?
Yes. All 40 questions and the complete report are free. You do not need to register, provide an email address or enter payment details.
Is this the official Myers–Briggs assessment?
No. This is an independent, original questionnaire based on the same four preference pairs. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Myers-Briggs Company or the Myers & Briggs Foundation. MBTI and Myers–Briggs are trademarks of their respective owners. Official assessment questions, scoring and reports are not reproduced here.
How accurate is the result?
The calculations are tested against the scoring rules, but this original questionnaire has not undergone scientific validation. Correct arithmetic does not prove that questions reliably measure personality. Treat the report as a prompt for reflection, not a definitive description, a diagnosis or a prediction of success.
What if my preferences are mixed or the result does not fit?
Mixed and slight preferences are useful outcomes, not errors. Your answers may vary by situation, and the questions may not capture what matters to you. Keep the observations that fit, consider both sides of a pair and do not feel obliged to adopt a label.
Can I change an answer or resume later?
Use Back, Next or Review my answers to make changes while you remain on the page. There is no saved progress: restarting, reloading or leaving clears the assessment.
Can this be used for hiring or health decisions?
No. This tool is intended for adult self-discovery. Do not use it to assess job suitability, diagnose a condition or decide someone’s compatibility with another person.
